“Our potential is big at 17 points, but only two of them had been managed in South Solok and Solok District. There are 15 more points and it should not be wasted,” he said in here, on Thursday.
He said that it is related to the rejection of some communities on geothermal exploration in Solok District, largely because it does not understand that geothermal is a green energy that does not damage the environment.
The explored of geothermal energy is extracted from up to 1,500 meters. Water taken will be restored again so as not to touch the surface water at all.
It broke people’s anxiety about the loss of water for daily necessities and the water that flowed the farmland.
Besides, he mentioned investment in various forms, one of which geothermal exploration is needed by West Sumatra in order to grow faster.
Provincial and national budget for the region can only finance 31 percent of development. The rest is required by private sector through investment both domestically and internationally.
Therefore, he regretted the existence of parties who reject the investment for inappropriate reasons that potentially hamper development.
Moreover, West Sumatra has been proclaimed as a green energy granary province which prioritizes the utilization of renewable energy sources to be managed optimally.
Management of renewable energy sources in the form of geothermal, water, solar and wind power can not only be done by government, but also need private sector support. (cha)
